*** WHAT IS WET DUSTLESS BLASTING
The dustless blasting method we use at Blast Connection is a “wet” abrasive blasting method that is more eco-friendly and safer on metal items than traditional dry sandblasting. In dry blasting, metal surfaces can fall victim to warping, due to the high frictional heat from the abrasive media. Wet blasting, or dustless blasting uses air as a delivery agent, with aggregate as an abrasive source. Water is then added to the delivery stream, to prevent dust from being kicked up. The water blasting technique also cools the blasted surface up to 15% more than ambient air temperature.
*** WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DUSTLESS BLASTING AND SANDBLASTING?
Dustless blasting is when water is mixed in with the media, which produces less dust than dry sandblasting. Sometimes dry sandblasting is not permitted in certain areas, making dustless blasting a wonderful alternative.
*** WHAT KIND OF ABRASIVE IS USED?
Our preferred abrasive is recycled bottle glass due to its ability to be used for a wide range of jobs, and it’s one of the best eco-friendly materials. If you choose to use another blast media, you need to make sure it has minimal trash and consistent particle size. Lots of debris or dirt will turn into mud inside the machine.
*** WILL RUST FORM SINCE WATER IS USED?
We use a particular formula rust inhibitor to prevent flash rust, which lasts up to 72 hours. This inhibitor gets added to the blast water and helps prevent flash rust during the blasting process and then used to rinse after blasting is complete.
